A courthouse lasts a century. Its masonry needs care on the same timeline.

The Ida County Courthouse at 401 Moorehead Street in Ida Grove is a red brick building with white stone window surrounds, decorative pediments and an ornate Italianate cornice. It's the kind of public building a county takes pride in, and the kind that needs steady care to stay that way.

As part of the county's exterior renovation, we completed masonry repairs at the base of the courthouse. The base of a wall takes a beating: splash-back from rain, snow piled against it all winter, and de-icing salt from the walks. Those conditions break down mortar and brick faster than anywhere else on the building.

Courthouses are built to last a century or more. Keeping the masonry sound at the base is a big part of how they get there.

This is the kind of work we do on public buildings in Ida Grove.
