Walcott Fire Department
Tuckpointing the 1931 brick fire station and City Hall building in Walcott, Iowa.

Community buildings work hard every day. Sound mortar joints keep them dry and in service.
The Walcott fire station at 128 W. Lincoln Street shares its building with Walcott City Hall. It's a 1931 brick building that has served the community for close to a century.
Buildings like this work hard. Doors open and close all day, trucks come and go, and the masonry takes every Iowa winter head-on. Over time the mortar joints wear down and open up.
We tuckpointed the brick: raking out the worn mortar and repointing the joints with new mortar. Sound joints keep water out of the wall and keep a building like this in service for the community for years to come.
This is the kind of work we do on public buildings across Iowa: tuckpointing.
