Biological growth holds water against stone. Cleaning it off is maintenance.

Market:

St. Ambrose University in Davenport has a campus full of limestone, including the chapel at 518 W. Locust Street with its tall bell tower and copper-crowned roofline.

Behind Ambrose Hall, the south facade had picked up heavy biological staining: dark growth that had settled into the limestone and the joints. That growth isn't just a cosmetic problem. It holds moisture against the face of the stone, and stone that stays wet weathers faster.

Working from scaffolding, we cleaned the stained limestone and tuckpointed the south facade. Cleaning stone takes a light touch. The goal is to remove the growth and the dirt without wearing away the surface of the stone, and the result is a wall that dries out the way it's supposed to.

This is the kind of work we do on schools and campuses in Davenport: building cleaning and tuckpointing.
