Commercial Tuckpointing & Masonry Restoration in Marion, IA
Marion sits on the northeast edge of Cedar Rapids, but it has its own historic core. The brick storefronts of Uptown Marion go back more than a century, and the city's schools and civic buildings add newer masonry with its own wear points: flashing, sealants and concrete that take a beating every winter.
All of it faces the same eastern Iowa freeze-thaw cycle. Water gets into a joint, freezes and opens it a little further every year.
TNT Tuckpointing & Building Restoration is a masonry restoration specialist based in eastern Iowa. We've worked on the Linn-Mar Learning Resource Center, the Linn-Mar Aquatic Center and the historic brick building at 2233 3rd Avenue. If your Marion building is losing mortar, cracking or letting water in, we'll assess it and give you a clear scope and a real budget. Call (563) 785-0120.

Three Things That Define Marion Masonry
- Historic Uptown brick. The older blocks in Uptown Marion were built with soft lime mortar. They need matched mortar and historic restoration, not hard modern patching.
- School and campus buildings. Linn-Mar and Marion schools carry a lot of masonry and concrete that sees heavy daily use. Through-wall flashing, sealants and concrete repair are where the leaks and safety problems start.
- Eastern Iowa freeze-thaw. Marion swings hard between wet and frozen. Timely tuckpointing is the cheapest repair a building owner will make.

Why Marion Chooses TNT Tuckpointing
We've worked in Marion. At the Linn-Mar Learning Resource Center we opened the base of the brick wall, installed new through-wall flashing and finished with concrete repairs and caulking. At the Linn-Mar Aquatic Center we repaired cracked concrete stairs and ramps where the rebar was exposed. On 2233 3rd Avenue we tuckpointed a historic two-story brick building from scaffolding.
Next door to Cedar Rapids. Marion is served by the same crews that restored the Linn County Courthouse and stained Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust. Cedar Rapids

Local insights in Marion
Flashing is the hidden problem. On a brick wall, through-wall flashing catches water that gets behind the brick and carries it back out. When it fails, water goes inside instead. At the Linn-Mar Learning Resource Center the fix meant opening the base of the wall and installing new flashing, not caulking over the symptoms.
Exposed rebar means the clock is running. Once water reaches the steel in concrete, the steel rusts, expands and breaks off more concrete. On stairs and ramps that's a safety issue as well as a repair. We repair the steel and the concrete together.
Historic brick needs softer mortar. Older Uptown brick is often softer than modern brick. Hard modern mortar makes the joint stronger than the brick, so the brick face spalls instead of the joint. We match mortar to the original.
Where we work. We serve Marion, Hiawatha, Robins and eastern Linn County, along with Cedar Rapids and the corridor toward Iowa City.
