Why We Focus on Commercial Masonry (and Don't Do Residential)

If you're a homeowner who's reached out to us for masonry work — first, thank you. We appreciate you thinking of TNT, and we know it can be frustrating to hear "we can't help with that." So we want to explain why, and hopefully point you in the right direction — though we'll be honest, we often don't have a residential contractor we're confident enough in to refer. When we put someone's name out there, our reputation goes with it, and we take that seriously. It's a gap in the industry we wish we could solve.
We're Specialists, Not Generalists
If you needed heart surgery, you wouldn't go to your family doctor. Your family doctor is skilled and knowledgeable — but a heart surgeon has dedicated their entire career to one specific, complex area. That's how we operate.
TNT Tuckpointing & Building Restoration has made a deliberate choice to specialize in one niche of the masonry world: large-scale commercial, industrial, institutional, and historic building restoration. That means every person on our team — from project managers to the crew on scaffolding — is trained, equipped, and focused on the unique demands of these projects.
We handle everything from the intricate preservation of century-old courthouses and churches to the comprehensive restoration of multi-story educational and government facilities. That focus is what allows us to do this work at the level our clients expect.
The Right Tools for the Right Job
A typical residential project might involve repairing a chimney, a small retaining wall, or a section of foundation. Those are important jobs — but they don't require the same equipment, crew size, or logistical planning as a 10-story building over an active parking garage.
Our equipment fleet includes mast climbing platforms, swing stages, boom lifts, telehandlers, and heavy scaffolding systems — all purpose-built for large-scale commercial access. Our crews are trained in complex rigging, engineered shoring, and high-elevation work. Deploying that infrastructure on a residential project wouldn't be efficient for us, and it wouldn't be the right solution for your home either.
What We'd Recommend Instead
If you're a homeowner looking for masonry repair, tuckpointing, or restoration work, the best thing you can do is find a contractor who specializes in residential masonry. They'll have the right experience, crew size, and pricing model to give your home the attention it deserves.
We'd suggest asking potential contractors about their experience with your specific type of masonry (brick, block, or stone), requesting references from similar residential projects, and confirming they carry proper insurance and licensing for your area.
For Commercial, Religious, Industrial & Institutional Projects
If you're a building owner, facility manager, church administrator, architect, or general contractor with a commercial, religious, industrial, governmental, or educational building project, that's exactly what we're built for. We've been restoring buildings across the Midwest since 1993, and we'd welcome the opportunity to discuss your project.
