Meet Ryan Flatley

I've been with TNT Tuckpointing since 2015 — just over 10 years now. I'm currently a foreman, so my day-to-day usually involves running the job site, along with designing and erecting scaffolds, swing stages, frame systems, and mast climbers. I also conduct scaffold safety trainings for the crew.

My favorite part of the job is honestly the guys I work with. We have some awesome people here. We always joke that we spend more time with each other than our actual families — and when that's the case, it helps to have coworkers who are more like friends.

One of my most memorable projects would have to be the Des Moines Police Department and City Hall. I was just starting off in the trade and really didn't know much about masonry at all. That job helped me realize I could actually do this type of work and be a real contributor to the company. It gave me a lot of confidence going forward.

More recently, I was the project lead on our 111 Cottage Grove Tower Retrofit — the one featured in this month's newsletter. That project had a different access challenge on every elevation, so we were working through solutions with Fraco and coordinating crane picks and shoring just to get our platforms in place. Projects like that are what keep the job interesting.

I didn't necessarily choose this career — it kind of found me. I started in the scaffolding business when I was younger, and through designing and erecting scaffolds, I got introduced to different trades while building for them. One of those was masonry restoration, working for Josh at TNT.

Outside of work, I really enjoy getting outside and taking my two dogs, Ace and Winter, for long walks. I also enjoy running and doing races. But lately, I've really been enjoying getting out on the golf course with my daughter, Braylee, and my son, Beckham.
