Attending the Preserve Iowa Summit, held in June, 2025 in Muscatine, was more than just professional development, it was a transformative experience. As the only contractor in the room, I had the unique opportunity to stand alongside preservation architects, building owners, leaders from historical societies, and county board members from across Iowa.

Over three packed days, one theme came through loud and clear: we’re not just fixing brick and mortar—we’re safeguarding Iowa’s heritage. Every session showed how much passion and expertise there is in the preservation community which was truly inspiring.

Here is what we plan to do next here at TNT Tuckpointing:

1. Partner earlier. We’ll team up with grant writers and preservation architects during budgeting and pre-construction so projects start with accurate numbers and realistic timelines.
2. Be a louder voice for preservation. We’ll share case studies, celebrate local successes, and advocate for policies that keep historic integrity front-and-center.

The takeaway is simple: when contractors are invited in early, restoration projects run smoother, stay on budget, and protect the details that make historic structures irreplaceable. At TNT, we’re ready to bring that collaborative mindset home.
